The DOOM series, one of the most legendary gaming franchises of all time, is set to expand with a new entry in 2025, and we’re counting down the days until its release.

So, to ensure you stay up to date with one of the most anticipated games of the year, we've compiled everything we know about the next chapter of the iconic series.

Release Window

Since the exact release date has yet to be confirmed, we can estimate a likely window for DOOM: The Dark Ages based on available information.
Announced at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, DOOM: The Dark Ages is expected to launch in the latter half of the year due to the lack of recent updates on the game.

With Microsoft already having a decent number of game releases lined up for the first half of the year, a fall or winter release seems the most likely, meaning we will have to wait a bit longer for the highly anticipated entry in the DOOM series.

Platforms

DOOM: The Dark Ages will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Game Pass access on day one.

Despite Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, the game will remain multi-platform, as Phil Spencer has emphasized the importance of ensuring DOOM’s legacy is accessible to all players, regardless of platform.

The decision to keep the franchise available across various consoles reflects both the series’ history and the strong demand from fans across different gaming communities.

Gameplay

Staying true to the franchise's winning formula, DOOM: The Dark Ages will be a single-player first-person shooter, acting as a prequel to the 2016 DOOM reboot and DOOM Eternal. The game transports players to a medieval period, where they wield unique weapons like maces and saw shields to combat the forces of Hell. With a return to the series’ roots, the game offers a more traditional arsenal and a grounded approach to combat.

In a nod to classic DOOM, DOOM: The Dark Ages focuses on precision and strafing, emphasizing fluid, fast-paced gameplay over vertical movement. Players will weave through enemy projectiles, delivering a tight and focused combat experience. The game is designed to cater to both newcomers and longtime fans, with its accessible mechanics and nostalgic appeal.

As anticipation builds for the 2025 release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, we're excited to see how the game will advance the franchise while staying true to its legendary roots.
