As the spooky season draws closer, we’ve got some spine-chilling horror game suggestions you may not have heard of – but definitely need to play!

We all have that one friend who can’t handle anything horror-related. If that’s you, you’re missing out. But If you’re the adventurous type, you’ll love diving into these tips.

The Mortuary Assistant

Ever dreamed of being a mortuary assistant?

The player takes on the day-to-day tasks of the job, with one simple catch: you also need to fend off demonic entities while you’re at it. No big deal.

The concept is simple, but don’t be fooled – you don’t get a second to relax, and the scares come at you hard and fast. We’re starting strong here because this is easily one of the scarier experiences currently available.

Sons of the Forest

Of a different flavor of horror comes Sons of the Forest - the survival highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s The Forest.

In here you’re sent to an island swarming with cannibalistic monsters to rescue a missing CEO and his family. During the day, it’s all about typical survival gameplay as you gather resources and craft your weapons and shelter. But when night falls, the real terror begins, as the cannibals start hunting, and your survival skills are put to the test.

Best of all, you can play with up to 8 friends, so you can all end up on a plate together!

Amnesia: The Bunker

Back to good old classic horror, the fourth installment in the Amnesia series offers a fresh experience.

You play as a French soldier trapped in a bunker with a monster, and your only goal is to escape. What really makes this game special is how liberating it is; it really is a breath of fresh air in a usually more linear genre. The scares are intense but never cheap or repetitive, and the game pushes you to think creatively as you try to survive and escape the nightmarish bunker.

Outlast

We couldn’t round off this list without mentioning one of the absolute classics. Last but by no means least, we’ve got Outlast.

You step into the shoes of an investigative reporter looking into a seemingly abandoned psychiatric asylum. What could possibly go wrong?

The game drops you into the darkness, where your most trusted friend is your night vision camera. But there’s a catch - your battery is limited, and trust us, you don’t want to be left in the dark. It’s a bone-chilling experience that blends stealth, platforming, and pure terror into an unforgettable experience.

So, turn off the lights, grab some snacks, and good luck! That is if you’re brave enough.
