GPBT Star Sign: Behind the Design

Meet the creative minds behind our latest limited edition keycaps set, Star Sign, a design inspired by the wonders of astrology and a love for unique, meaningful details. Our designers Nick and Jaina blended their shared curiosity for horoscopes and celestial aesthetics with bold colors, intricate illustrations, and countless collaborative "vibe checks" to bring this set to life. From choosing the perfect gold-accented palette to tackling design challenges like aligning swirling patterns, they poured their creativity into every aspect of this project. The result? A truly cosmic creation that’s as functional as it is inspiring.

Our designers sat down to chat about their process—sharing insights into how they balanced creative styles, overcame challenges, and discovered inspiration in the stars.

Interview Answers

Q: What role does astrology play in your lives? What inspired you to translate that into a keycap set design?

J: I enjoy reading horoscopes and about the different traits of signs, and I had a fundamental understanding of astrology when starting this project. Learning more about it when researching to create this set was fun! 

N: I’d say my relationship to astrology is similar. It plays a very lowkey role in my life, but it was definitely a fun and interesting theme to design with.

Q: How did you ensure a consistent style with two designers working on this set?

J: Constant jams & vibe checks! After ideation, we aligned on a vector style that we felt confident we could replicate together.

N: Exactly this. We helped each other tweak each illustration as we worked through the full set, and combed through the fine details together when compiling them.


Q: How did you choose the color palette for this keycap set? Did you try other options

N: A lot of trial and error, but we knew from pretty early on that we wanted to include yellows and golds. Many palettes were explored, and it was tricky to pick the final one! We had a lot of strong options.

J: We initially had some non-traditional colors to begin with, but we felt that the current color palette paired well with the concept and illustration style.


Q: What was the most rewarding part of the creative process for this product? What was the biggest challenge?

J: Seeing a tangible product come to life through every stage. We were involved from conception to production to marketing, and I’m so grateful to grow as a designer throughout the entire process! For me, the biggest challenge was getting the swirls aligned on the navigation keys. 💫

N: Definitely a big learning experience! I’d say the most rewarding part of the process was how much creative autonomy we had. We really got to take the time to sweat the details on what turned out to be a truly unique product and campaign. The biggest challenge was waiting to release it!!


Q: What would you say to somebody who buys this set?
