Announcements
Mar 25 2025
After nearly a month of anticipation, Ubisoft has officially unveiled its "major evolution" for Rainbow Six Siege, titled Rainbow Six Siege X.
This update introduces a wealth of new features and changes, and to help you stay on top of it all, we've compiled a summary of the most important additions coming with Rainbow Six Siege X.
Let’s get right into it!
Dual Front Game Mode
Perhaps one of the most exciting additions in Rainbow Six Siege X is the new Dual Front game mode.
In this mode, two teams of six players face off on a fresh map called District. The goal is to plant a sabotage kit in the enemy's objective room, defend it to capture the sector, and ultimately sabotage the opposing team’s Base to secure the win.
Dual Front will also feature a respawn mechanic, giving players a chance to re-enter the action after elimination. Additionally, time-limited assignments in a neutral area will offer extra rewards to teams that complete them, adding a layer of strategy and flexibility to the gameplay.
Technical Upgrades and Revamps
Rainbow Six Siege X will also introduce multiple improvements that enhance the core gameplay experience, from technical upgrades to quality-of-life features.
Notably, graphic improvements will give the maps a modernized look, with enhanced lighting and shadows, with future seasons bringing even more map updates to keep the visuals fresh and immersive.
The audio system is also getting a major overhaul, with a complete rework of sound propagation and reverberation. This change will enable players to more accurately gather information about enemy positions and movements, improving overall tactical gameplay.
Advanced Rappel
The rappel mechanics are also getting some attention in Rainbow Six Siege X, introducing an advanced system designed to improve mobility and maneuverability while rappelling.
This new system allows players to run along walls and loop around corners, giving them the ability to access choke points quickly and reposition to cover flanks. With this enhanced mobility, attackers can gain better map control, cutting off escaping defenders or even navigating through windows without needing to enter the building.
The upgraded fluidity and freedom of movement open new strategic and tactical possibilities across the various maps, offering players even more ways to outmaneuver their opponents.
Free Access
Starting with Year 10 Season 2, Rainbow Six Siege will become free-to-play across all platforms. Free players will have access to most game modes, though Ranked and Siege Cup will be locked until they reach level 50 and purchase the premium upgrade. The cost for the premium upgrade has yet to be announced.
If you already own Rainbow Six Siege, don’t worry. All previously unlocked content – such as game modes, Operators, inventory, and progression - will remain intact. Additionally, players will receive special veteran rewards to celebrate their dedication to the game.
Player Protection
Last but not least, Rainbow Six Siege X will also introduce significant updates aimed at improving the overall game environment by tackling cheating and toxicity.
With Siege X, Ubisoft is unifying their anti-cheat tools under the new name R6 ShieldGuard, which will bring together existing initiatives, while introducing new solutions. These improvements will make it harder for cheats to be developed and deployed, creating a safer environment for players when it comes to competitive integrity.
Additionally, the “major evolution” will strengthen anti-toxicity measures, including the Reputation System, which will affect players' access to certain playlists.
After seeing everything Ubisoft has in store for Rainbow Six Siege's next major update, we're pretty excited to dive into the new features - especially the Dual Front game mode, which we hope will bring a fresh twist to the game.
