Building A Partnership - NPCA + Glorious

Dec 03 2024

One of the things we love at Glorious is learning what gamers enjoy both inside and outside of gaming. We are all gamers. We’re also enthusiasts of so many other diverse activities and hobbies.

It’s likely no surprise to anyone reading this that 99.99% of Glorious employees are gamers. But we’re also plant lovers, readers, musicians, sports fans, equestrians, comic book collectors, photographers, and so much more.

In 2024, we asked the Glorious community “what hobbies do you enjoy in addition to gaming?” Our survey confirmed that a significant number of Glorious owners were fans of the outdoors - hiking, camping, visiting national parks, etc. We also discovered that many of our staff love those same outdoor activities.

This sparked an idea: what if we were to create something that would celebrate our love for these special places every day and support a great cause?

After many hours of brainstorming, sketches and conversations, this glimmer of a concept became The National Parks Collection as part of our limited edition keycap program, KeyCapsules. We decided to focus on three of America’s most popular parks - Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Yosemite - with each set sporting a unique design of flora and fauna native to each park.

Since our KeyCapsules program drops a new design on the first Tuesday of every month, the perfect time for this collection to release was Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024. With designs in hand, we set out to partner with an organization that championed park conservation and preservation.

The team at National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) was as excited about our concept and ideas as we were. (Those early meetings were such a blast, we didn’t want them to end!) We quickly agreed we would love to work together, and the NPCA + Glorious partnership launched in September 2024.

NPCA celebrates the power of gamers, and understands the passion that we have for the things we love. One of their many missions is to inspire the next generation to love our parks as much as we all do.

As we prepared for the launch of the GPBT National Parks Collection, we teamed up with three NPCA employees with special ties to Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand Canyon and got the opportunity to learn more about the important work they do every day.

Meet NPCA’s Terrance, Sally and Christina!

Terrance Liggins, NPCA’s Manager of Video Production, is constantly producing and editing content for NPCA, so the GMMK 3 was perfect for his desk setup and busy workload. (Check out that custom keyboard design!)

What made Terrance choose Yosemite? “Yosemite has so much to offer from wildlife, stunning views, to scenic trails. It’s so cool to see all my favorite things about the park represented together as keycaps,” Terrance said. “I think it serves as a great reminder of the role parks can play in our lives and all the different ways we can learn from a place.”

We asked Terrance if there was something he’d like the Glorious community to know about national parks from his experience working with NPCA. “National parks are for everyone—and that’s why the work NPCA does is important in making sure everyone is welcomed in these spaces. I’m proud of the work NPCA does and couldn’t be happier to have Glorious support our work.”

Sally Garcia, Los Angeles Outreach Manager for NPCA for the past 3 years, selected the Grand Canyon keycap set. “The Grand Canyon has been on my bucket list for years! In 2024, I finally took a road trip, and it was our first stop. I got to watch the sunset with my partner—and most importantly, my dog. You see photos of how picturesque and grand it is, but nothing compares to experiencing it in person. Walking up to the viewpoints literally takes your breath away. That’s also one of the places where my dog got to become a B.A.R.K ranger.”

We asked Sally to share something about the parks that the Glorious community might not be aware of. “These parks belong to all of us, but it takes everyone working together to protect them,” she said. “You might think, ‘Who wouldn’t love national parks?’ Yet, there are always challenges threatening these incredible landscapes. That’s why we need everyone’s unique strengths and skills to advocate for these significant and beautiful places.”

Christina Hazard has been NPCA’s Legislative Director, Government Affairs for the past 18 years. “My job is to support the Government Affairs team and staff across the organization that work on legislation and policy, making sure we have the resources, coordination and relationships we need to influence decisionmakers. On a typical day, I may be reviewing the text of a bill, discussing strategy with one of our regional staff, reviewing a press release or meeting with congressional staff on Capitol Hill. I wear whatever hat I need to wear to support what our campaigns need on any given day.”

We asked Christina what Yellowstone meant to her. “I have two daughters and I’m taking them on their first trip to Yellowstone next summer. And I get choked up a bit because it is just so incredible that they get to experience this place. I was fortunate enough to visit national parks as a kid, but I don’t think I truly appreciated how special they are. But looking back, what a gift.”

Finally, we asked Christina what she could tell gamers who have never visited national parks before. “I’m a completionist. It’s a blessing and a curse. It helps me eek out every piece of an experience – whether it’s seeing every nook and cranny of a park or finding every one of those Korok Seeds in Zelda.”

“The cool thing about parks is that there are so many ways you can complete a mission. Want to visit every park site that you remember from Oregon Trail? You can do that. Want to visit the parks in Boston along the Freedom Trail from Fallout 4? You can do that, too. Want to go to the more than 430 parks in the National Park System? You can do that – and I will be forever jealous.”

You can purchase GBPT National Parks now! Each set is $69.99 - 10% of sales support NPCA. Go to https://glorious.gg/GPBT-National-Parks to show your love for your Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Yellowstone straight from your desk.
